The Project
West Midlands Police required a complete rebuild of their Birmingham city centre CCTV control room, upgrading from an analogue system to a state-of-the-art digital platform. Given the elevated security environment of the time, continuous surveillance coverage could not be interrupted during the transition, making the project technically and logistically complex.
The new system required 90 days of continuous recording capability, analogue-to-digital migration, integration with local and remote camera networks, and the ability to interface with other sites. The rebuild had to be completed within days to minimise any gap in operational capability, regardless of the complexity of the underlying infrastructure work.

The Solution
West Midlands Police invested in a state-of-the-art digital CCTV system to significantly improve the quality of city centre surveillance in Birmingham.
Complete control room rebuild
City centre security
Interface to other sites
Analogue to digital upgrade
Local & remote cameras
90 days continuous recording
The Result
Electro Automation built a temporary interim system and relocated the entire control room operation to provide continuous coverage while the new infrastructure was constructed. The team worked around the clock to bring the new control room fully online within days, achieving the transition without any loss of recording or control capability. The completed system provided Birmingham city centre with a significant upgrade in surveillance quality and operational capacity.
The new platform integrated local and remote cameras across the network, supported 90 days of continuous recording, and interfaced with other sites within the wider surveillance estate. The system was subsequently demonstrated to the Prime Minister during a formal visit, reflecting the confidence placed in both the technology and the team that delivered it.
Full digital control room delivered with zero interruption to surveillance coverage.
West Midlands Police achieved a complete analogue-to-digital control room rebuild without a single gap in surveillance coverage, setting a new standard for city centre monitoring.
