Integrated Security Across
Medtronic's Irish Facilities

Enhancing security infrastructure at Medtronic’s facilities in Galway and Athlone via integrated systems.

A unified integrated security platform across two Irish campuses, delivering consistent protection, full traceability, and standalone building resilience.

A global medtech leader required integrated security across two Irish campuses.

The project entails the installation of an integrated security system encompassing access control, CCTV, door monitoring, intercoms, gate automation, and perimeter fencing. The solution will be deployed across multiple buildings within the Galway campus and extended to the additional site in Athlone. Key components of the system include the Vanderbilt SiPass Integrated access control system and Avigilon CCTV system, tailored to Medtronic’s specific requirements. All of the project management, design, commissioning, and training will be provided by our in-house team to ensure the end-to-end solution meets the client’s requirements as laid out in the tender document. Our local presence in the area will allow the client peace of mind that our engineers are available on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year. This ensures business continuity, supported by our large project execution model developed over many years of installing similar projects.

The Project

Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology, required an upgrade to their access control infrastructure at their Galway campus and the implementation of a new integrated system at their Athlone site. Both facilities required consistent security management covering access control, CCTV, door monitoring, intercoms, gate automation, and perimeter fencing, all operating as a unified platform.

The project was specified using the Vanderbilt SiPass Integrated access control system and Avigilon CCTV, with all project management, design, commissioning, and training delivered in-house by Electro Automation. Each building required standalone capability to ensure operational continuity in the event of network issues, while the overall system needed to provide full cross-site visibility and event traceability.

The Result

Electro Automation delivered a complete integrated security solution across Medtronic's Galway and Athlone facilities. The Vanderbilt SiPass access control system and Avigilon CCTV platform were installed and commissioned across multiple buildings, providing unified visibility and traceability of all access events, CCTV activity, and perimeter intrusions across both sites. Each building operates on a standalone basis in the event of network issues, ensuring continuity of security without dependency on a single point of failure.

The integrated system gives Medtronic's in-house security team event-driven alerts, full audit trails, and a clear escalation framework for managing security incidents across both campuses. The solution was delivered end-to-end by Electro Automation's in-house team, covering design, installation, commissioning, and training, ensuring Medtronic has a single accountable partner for the entire security infrastructure across their Irish operations.

A consistent, integrated security platform across two mission-critical campuses.
